 Grinding Mill Charge Movement
In rod mills the movement of the comparatively rigid media involves a certain amount of rolling and cascading which doesn’t resemble the action of a loosely projected ball path. Similar rod action in mills of different diameters my occur at varying percentages of critical speed. Consequently, it has proven best to describe the speed instead of referring to their percentage of critical speed as is done for ball mills of the same diameter. Marcy low pulp level rod mills show best efficiency between a peripheral speed of 400 and 550 feet per minute depending on diameter. Marcy engineers have determined the best mill speeds from practice and have fitted a curve of speed vs. diameter with an equation enabling them to recommend the best speed for any mill design. The two graphs on page 18 show various mill speeds on page 18 show various mill speeds as a function of mill diameter for rod mils and ball mills.

The principle of grinding mill

what is the grinding mill, how does it work? In cambridge dictionary, as says that a machine for crushing or cutting something into very small pieces. In my words, A grinding mill crushes material between two closely placed, heavy objects like stones. They are rotating with respect to one another so the material gets crushed like in a mortar and pestle.
How does grinding mill work?
Observation and research finding indicate that earliest type of grinding mill is called a quern-stone. Two heavy stones which fit together. The top rotates and the corn (etc) is trapped between the two stones. The faces usually have small groves carved into then, and these function a lot like the teeth on a file. The corn gets "stuck", and other side rotates, and files away the free surface of the stuck grain . There's LOTS of different patterns for these groves. Different ones are probably better for different grains.
